Many people enjoy the benefits of working from home. The Internet has made it possible for many people to do all their work from behind their own computer. Unfortunately, one problem that many people have with this situation is the urge to combine work and life. This is a common problem, but should not keep you from enjoying the benefits of working from home.

If you find yourself wanting to blur the line between work and life, set a boundary. First, decide exact times you will work. For example, decide that 9:00-5:00 you are working. Then, make yourself be on time every day, just like you would at any other job. During that time, do not do anything relating to your home life. It might also help for you to shower and put on work clothes before your designated work hours, so you feel more like you are working. You also need to make sure that other people know that you are not to be disturbed during your work hours. Friends and family can be distracting when you need to work, and it is easiest to tell them beforehand that you need to work.

On the other hand, do not let work interfere with your personal life. You should always “leave” work at the designated time. Then, do not do any more work for the rest of the day. Work can interfere with friends and family just as much as friends and family can interfere with work.

Working from home has many advantages. Overcoming the challenges an Internet-based job poses is very rewarding for many people.
